Working in the social service sector starts with having one's heart in the right place. It is a non-profit sector where people have chosen to apply their gifts and talents, skills and abilities in the service of others.

To all who apply, we offer the opportunity to meet and understand the work in more detail. Recruitment orientation programmes are held regularly and suitable persons are offered a trial which is a hands-on experience with those we serve. The trial also gives applicants an opportunity to check us out and see if our working environment and organisational culture fits with them. Only when the applicant and us are mutually comfortable with each other, will we award an employment contract.

It seems like a long process but we need people to come in with their eyes open. The work is challenging and we expect team-mates to look out for each other and communicate honestly all the time as mutual support sustains us. The work is hard enough with the battles presented to us, we definitely don't need to battle ourselves.

While we accept applicants from diverse backgrounds, in time all staff must acquire the necessary social work training. We provide a weekly in-house training cum supervision programme entitled Journey Beyond and we strongly encourage all staff to receive formal social work training in due course. In cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences, Potsdam Berlin, we offer the opportunity for our staff to pursue a Diploma in Social Work Practice.

As a staff, we carry out our work guided by a set of ethics, principles and values and we require a fair amount of skill, thinking and expertise. Hence, it is absolutely necessary to be open towards learning. Even if you are already a trained professional, you may find our approaches having a different emphasis from what you were used to.

We would say that Beyond is a great place to work and to grow professionally and personally but only, if you really want to do the work.
